Battery Back-up Options

Battery Back-up for ONT:
Fiber optic technology is different in many ways than the traditional copper wire network. One of those differences is how you receive telephone service (dial tone). On a copper wire network your telephone is powered by the telephone line, in a fiber optic network your telephone is powered by your in-house electrical service. On a copper network if the power goes out in your neighborhood your telephone still works because the power is coming from the copper telephone line powered at the telephone company. Fiber optics networks do not carry electricity, so if you lose electrical power, your telephone line also would not work. However, by supplying a battery back- up in your home to the ONT (Optical Network Terminal), your telephone will continue to work if you lose electrical power. MHTC wants you to realize that in the case of a power outage at your home and without a power back-up source on your fiber network you would not be able to call 911.

Luminous Voice works over your Internet connection and does not carry electricity. With this, your telephone is powered by your in-house electrical service so if you lose electrical power your telephone line also will not work. MHTC will provide battery back-up for a onetime fee. In some cases you will have the option to purchase battery back-up from another vendor if the system is compatible. In any case, please let us know how you would like to proceed with your telephone service power back up.
