Use this guide for detailed information on setting up your YouTube TV account.
1. Set Up YouTube TV Account
Create a Google Account (if needed)
YouTube TV requires a Google account to sign in.
- Steps:
- Visit Google Account Creation.
- Enter the details (name, username, password) and follow the prompts to verify the email address.
- Write down the login credentials on a secure note or password manager for easy reference.
Tip: Make sure the username and password are easy to remember. Consider using a simple password with familiar words or numbers, but still secure.
Subscribe to YouTube TV
- Steps:
- Go to YouTube TV or open the app on a Smart TV or streaming device.
- Sign in with the Google account you just created or use an existing Google account.
- Follow the prompts to subscribe (a paid subscription is required for access).
- Enter payment details if prompted (YouTube TV typically offers a free trial, so ensure you’re aware of any charges after the trial period).
Tip: YouTube TV offers a 7-day free trial, which you can cancel at any time before the trial ends to avoid charges.
2. Install YouTube TV on the Device
- For Smart TV:
- Open the TV’s app store (Google Play Store for Android TVs, Samsung App Store, etc.).
- Use the search function to look for “YouTube TV”.
- Select Install and wait for it to download.
- Once installed, open the app, and sign in using the Google account.
- For Streaming Devices (Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, etc.):
- Open the device’s app store (Roku Channel Store, Amazon App Store for Fire TV, etc.).
- Search for YouTube TV and click on Install.
- After installation, open the app and sign in with the Google account.
- For Phone/Tablet:
- Open the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
- Search for YouTube TV and click on Install.
- Open the app and sign in.
3. Add YouTube TV to the Favorites/Home Screen
You can customize the app’s placement on the home screen or within the app store to make it easier to access.
For Smart TV:
- Go to the home screen where apps are displayed.
- Find the YouTube TV app.
- On most TVs, you can long press or select the app, then choose Add to Home or Move to Front.
- This places YouTube TV at the top for easy access.
For Streaming Devices (Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV):
- Roku:
- From the Roku home screen, highlight the YouTube TV app.

4. Add Channels to Favorites
This step ensures the most-watched channels are easy to access.
On TV/Streaming Device:
- Open the YouTube TV app.
- Navigate to the Live TV or Library tab (where the list of channels is displayed).
- Scroll to find the channel you like (e.g., CNN, HGTV, ESPN).
- When a channel is selected, a star or heart icon will appear near the channel’s name or within the menu.
- Select the star/heart to mark the channel as a favorite.
- The channel will appear under the "Favorites" section or will be prioritized in the "Live TV" guide.
On Phone/Tablet:
- Open the YouTube TV app and go to the Live TV or Library tab.
- Tap on the star or heart icon next to the channels you watch regularly.
- The channels will then be added to the Favorites section for quick access.

Voice Control (If Available):
- Smart TV with Voice Remote: Voice commands to navigate. For example:

- Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant: If the smart speaker or TV, use voice assistants to control the TV. Set up voice controls for basic actions like opening the app or changing channels.
Set Up DVR for Automatic Recording:
- YouTube TV has a built-in DVR feature. You can record your favorite shows.
- To use the DVR:
- When watching a show, click on the Record button (a red dot icon).
- Choose Record All Episodes for ongoing series or Record This Episode for a one-time show.
